Talking to your School

Dear Families,

We are often asked how best to communicate with the school and who to go to for support. At Tuart Forest Primary School, we’re committed to making communication clear, respectful, and effective. As a parent or carer, you play a vital role in your child’s learning. Building a positive relationship between home and school plays an important part in the education of your child. Effective communication is the key to the success of this relationship. Tuart Forest Primary School is committed to responding promptly to your enquiries, concerns, suggestions and compliments. Our school also provides information about support services for children with a disability, children with learning difficulties, and its policies and procedures.

Compass – General Updates & Messages

Tuart Forest PS uses the Compass App to share general notices and school-wide information. This is our main platform for communication, and we encourage all families to ensure it is downloaded on their smartphones. If you’ve lost access or need your sign-on details resent, just let the front office know—we’re happy to help.

You can also use Compass Connect to send short, non-urgent messages to your child’s teacher. This might include:

  • Letting the teacher know your child didn’t sleep well
  • Informing them that someone else is collecting your child
  • Sharing quick updates to help support your child during the day

Please remember that teachers only check Compass at certain points in the day (usually during non-instructional times), so urgent or time-sensitive messages may not be seen immediately.

Email – When It’s More Important

For more important matters, we ask that families send an email directly to the teacher. This includes:

  • Concerns about your child’s behaviour or wellbeing
  • Questions about academic progress or classroom learning
  • Personal family matters that may affect your child at school
  • Behaviour incidents that you wish to discuss further
  • Requests for more information about processes or policies

Email allows for a more detailed response and ensures privacy and care in how we handle your more sensitive concerns. Teachers are not expected to reply before 8am or after 4pm, and we thank you for understanding that they also have families and responsibilities outside of school hours.

Before contacting us with an enquiry or concern you may want to:

  • Talk with family and friends to clarify your enquiry or concern
  • Write it down
  • Make a list of relevant information specific to your enquiry.

The next step may be to make an appointment with the most appropriate person at the school. Enquiries and concerns received via email format will mostly be responded to in writing, on sometimes in person. Who Do I Contact?

School Officers Applications for enrolments, making appointments with administrative staff, absence notifications, uniform orders, general enquiries, school payments.
Classroom Teachers Academic progress, general behaviour, assessment, attendance, social or emotional wellbeing.
