Core Curriculum

All students at Tuart Forest Primary School participate in the eight learning areas as specified by the Australian Curriculum. These include:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • HASS (Humanities & Social Sciences)
  • The Arts: Music, Art & Craft
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Technology
  • Language Other Than English (LOTE) – AUSLAN

At Tuart Forest, we are implementing whole-school approaches to teaching and learning to ensure seamless progression through the years that students are at our school. Central to the whole-school approach is our use of explicit instruction in the English and Maths learning areas.

Tuart Forest is currently developing and implementing an explicit teaching curriculum in Years K-6. These documents reflect the Australian Curriculum, and focus on explicit instruction and sequential learning. Explicit teaching programs have been or will be developed in coming years in the areas of

  • Spelling K-6 – 2021
  • Maths K-6 – 2020
  • Science K-6 – 2020
  • Grammar K-6 – TBC
  • Writing K-6 – 2017
  • Reading 4-6 – 2014

Specialist teachers are employed in the areas of:

  • Music
  • Science
  • Physical Education.
  • LOTE – AUSLAN (sign language)

Academic achievement is our core activity. Tuart Forest students work hard and are expected to meet minimum benchmarks of academic performance. A positive work ethic and talented teachers, combined with high expectations from parents and staff, have produced success from year to year. One of the key aims of our scholastic attainment is to customise the school’s curriculum to our students’ needs and interests.
